Tonight’s Powerball jackpot has reached a whopping $403 million, with a cash value of $244 million.
Louisiana Lottery Spokesperson Kimberly Chopin says this is the 10th largest Powerball jackpot ever. She says this drawing is the 19th in the current run.
“So the fact that we’re just sitting here at 400 in the 19th drawing means it’s actually taking these jackpots to be bigger and bigger before people get the Powerball frenzy.”
Chopin says every time the jackpot reaches these high numbers, more and more people start to play. She says although Louisianans haven’t won the jackpot in a while, a lot of people still win smaller Powerball prizes.
“And just in this last drawing, the Louisiana Lottery had a $1 million Powerball winner from Lafayette and in the past two drawings, we’ve had five $50,000 winners.”
Chopin says the last time the Powerball jackpot was won in Louisiana was in May 2013, where the jackpot was split between two other states.
“In terms of jackpot winners, we’ve had 15 of those since we joined the game back in 1995. However, we have had 47 winners of $1 million or more.”
