Police report suspicious device found at UL-L

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette canceled classes today after police found a suspicious device when someone made a bomb threat.

"The University has activated a campus wide evacuation until the situation has been cleared. If you are in campus housing please remain in your residence. If you have commuted into campus please leave in a safe manner. Updates will follow," read the announcement posted to the university's Facebook page.

Lafayette police spokesman Kyle Soriez told The Associated Press the device was found at the 33-acre Girard Park.

State police say they are sending a hazardous materials team to the park.
