Police: Employee stole $100K from Kenner business

Kenner police have arrested a 35-year-old woman accused of stealing more than $100,000 from the scrap yard where she was employed.

Sgt. Brian McGregor says the case against Melissa Tate is still under investigation, and detectives suspect she may have stolen closer to $500,000.

McGregor says Tate, of Marrero, worked for All Scrap Metals for about seven years.

He says the business owner contacted police after he discovered that Tate had overpaid a customer.

Tate was arrested Monday and booked with theft valued at more than $1,500 and conspiracy to commit theft. She is free on a $50,000 bond.

It was unclear whether she has an attorney.

A Houston school district said that 4 teams had to change their mascots because they were offensive to Native Americans. Are we becoming kinder & gentler, or are we too hung up on getting offended?
