Orpheus features Forte, Wood and Simpson

Orpheus says Will Forte, Evan Rachel Wood and Jimmi Simpson will be its monarchs for Mardi Gras 2017.

"The Krewe of Orpheus is excited to announce that Will Forte (above left) will serve as an Orpheus Monarch in their upcoming parade, bringing with him the cast of his Emmy Nominated FOX sitcom, The Last Man on Earth," the krewe announced in a news release.  "Jimmi Simpson and Evan Rachel Wood (above right), the ill-fated lovers of the Golden Globe nominated HBO drama Westworld, will share in the Orpheus Monarch honors."

In addition, Orpheus announced a big name performer for its ball, the Orpheuscapade.

"Rock icon, star of record breaking television series, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Bret Michaels will be headlining the Krewe’s 2017 Orpheuscapade as well as riding in the Lundi Gras evening parade"

The Temptations will also perform.

This announcement follows Bacchus unveiling Jim Caviezel, the actor best known for his portrayal of Jesus Christ in the 2004  film The Passion of the Christ, will reign as Bacchus XLIX.

Endymion earlier announced KISS, Flo Rida and KC and the Sunshine Band will be celebrity riders and performers.

Here is the full news release from Orpheus:

The Krewe of Orpheus is excited to announce that Will Forte will serve as an Orpheus Monarch in their upcoming parade, bringing with him the cast of his Emmy Nominated FOX sitcom, The Last Man on Earth. Forte, along with Kristin Schaal, Mel Rodriguez, Mary Steenburgen and Cleopatra Coleman will lead the procession of 30 floats, 1,400 krewe members and 32 marching units on Monday, February 27, 2017. Nominated as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for a 2016 Emmy and two 2015 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Forte is also well known for his 8 seasons on Saturday Night Live.

Jimmi Simpson and Evan Rachel Wood, the ill-fated lovers of the Golden Globe nominated HBO drama Westworld, will share in the Orpheus Monarch honors. Westworld’s debut earned HBO’s highest viewership ratings for a premiere since 2014 and ranks as the most-watched first season of an HBO original series ever. The show has received critical acclaim with particular praise for the visuals, story, and acting and most recently garnering Wood the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Dolores Abernathy.

Rock icon, star of record breaking television series, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Bret Michaels will be headlining the Krewe’s 2017 Orpheuscapade as well as riding in the Lundi Gras evening parade themed On the Wave of a Dream. The Orpheuscapade all-time fan favorite will take time away from his sold out tour to be featured as the main attraction of the after parade celebration.

Legendary Motown group The Temptations will also be showcased at the Orpheuscapade. For more than fifty years, The Temptations have prospered, propelling popular music with a series of smash hits, and sold-out performances throughout the world. Known for their choreography, distinct harmonies, and flashy wardrobe the Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award winners will bring their unique vocal stylings to the 2017 event.

American’s premiere party band and music machine Party Crashers, and the New Orleans based rock/pop cover band, The Mixed Nuts will round out the evening’s entertainment.
