Orleans Parish prison inmate escapes

A search is underway for an inmate who escaped the Temporary Housing Center at Orleans Parish Prison.

Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman says they discovered the inmate, Mitchell Manning, was missing after they noticed that one of the tents that houses the inmates was damaged.

Manning was in prison on charges of domestic abuse battery, home invasion, simple criminal damage to property, possession of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, according to the OPSO.

Before his arrest, Manning was free on a $45,000 bond awaiting trial on a charge of distribution of cocaine.

Anyone with information that could help authorities should call the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office at 504-827-8505.
