Jefferson Parish authorities say they have arrested one of the suspects in a Metairie carjacking.
"Sheriff Newell Normand announces the arrests of Antonio Marcelin, B/M, 19, of 3522 Vespasian Boulevard in New Orleans," Colonel John Fortunato said in a news release. "Marcelin (above) was booked... with one count of Accessory After the Fact to Armed Robbery in the Carjacking incident."
He says they have also identified another suspect.
"Arrest warrants for two counts of Armed Robbery have been issued in this investigation, as well, for Hendrick Porter (right), B/M, 18, whose last known address was 1800 Estalote Street in Harvey," the spokesman said.
Fortunato says they are still looking for two additional suspects.
The carjacking happened this past Saturday, July 26, in the 600 block of Bonnabel Boulevard. A mother stopped to help the suspects who had car trouble.
"She and her 14 year-old daughter were the victims," the colonel said.
Fortunato added that the suspect they have arrested was the owner to the vehicle the suspects left behind after carjacking the woman and her daughter.
"The Ford Explorer, left behind by the suspects, was towed for Crime Scene processing. Latent prints and DNA were obtained by Crime Scene personnel during the processing of the vehicle. Research conducted on the vehicle identification number eventually led investigators to Antonio Marcelin."
The other two suspects are identified only as "Ace" or "Anthony" and "J" or "Jonathan."
Fortunato says those two men had wanted Marcelin to give them a ride.
"Marcelin told investigators... (they) asked him for a ride to Kenner. They offered to put gas in his Explorer, which he agreed to the arrangement. As Marcelin was driving on the Interstate, his Explorer began to overheat. He exited at Bonnabel Boulevard and turned towards the lake, stopping in the 600 block of Bonnabel Boulevard," he explained.
He says the other suspects got nervous being stranded in Jefferson Parish with guns and decided they had to get a car and get out of there right away, so they committed the carjacking.
"Anyone with information in this investigation, or who may know the whereabouts of Hendrick Porter or the black Chevy Cobalt, is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Kevin Balser at 504-364-5300 or CRIMESTOPPERS."
