Going boating this weekend? Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Agents are having their own version of "over the limit, under arrest."
DWF calls their enforcement crackdown "Operation Dry Water." They'll be looking for erratic boating and if they think a skipper is impaired, Capt. Rachel Zechenelly they'll give a field sobriety test right on the boat.
"We're capable of doing a...field sobriety stop in a vessel to detect any clues that may show signs of impairment," she said. "Then we're able to bring them ashore if we feel like the operator is impaired."
Under state law, a DWI while boating carries all the same penalties as a DWI while driving, including loss of one's license. Just like on dry land, the threshhold is a blood alcohol content of 0.08.
