Forecasters now say the Pearl River won't crest until tomorrow night.
"And that is very crucial for us. That gives the lake, which is already falling, another 24 hours to get lower so it's able to take more water from the Pearl," says St. Tammany Parish Spokeswoman Suzanne Parsons.
She says that means any flooding along the Pearl River will drain more quickly and not sit in neighborhoods as they had feared it might.
Officials still advise people near the Pearl and other rivers to remain vigilant and stay tuned in the event there are any new evacuations.
