If you listen to some of the New Orleans Saints players, it sounds more like a team that is 0 - 9, than a team that is a record setting 9 - 0.
"We are so capable of playing way better. It's just all the points we left out, the turnovers, the missed assignments, the missed tackles. Collectively we're a lot better than what we showed," offensive lineman Carl Nicks said after the 28 - 23 win over the Rams.
"To be honest, I feel like we lost," he insisted.
Nicks says he has been trying to figure out what is wrong with the Saints.
"I've been asking people left and right, 'What do we need to do? What do we need to do? Nobody seems to know," Nicks told WWL's Kristian Garic in the locker room after the game. "We just need to execute. At the end of the day, we just need to execute."
Listen to Nix:
Linebacker Jonathan Vilma was also critical of the defense's performance. "We had to tackle better," he said. "I think we did a better job in the second half."
Vilma said with all the injuries on the secondary, the backups have to be ready to step up. "When your number's called, you gotta show up."
Listen to Vilma:
New Orleans had 3 turnovers on 2 Drew Brees interceptions and a Marques Colston fumble. The Saints gave up 434 yards and 23 points in the game. They also lost the time of possession battle. The Saints had the ball 27:58 to the Rams' 32:02.
The Saints face the 1 - 8 Buccaneers Sunday. They have a Monday night showdown with the 6 - 3 Patriots in the Louisiana Superdome November 30th.
