New Orleans to be ''smarter'' competing for Super Bowls

New Orleans may be more selective in bidding on future Super Bowls.

"We have to be smarter in how we compete for future Super Bowls," Chairman of the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District Ron Foreman told WWL First News. "If we know we are going against a stadium that is building a brand new stadium, maybe it is not in our interest to compete."

This comes a day after NFL owners narrowly picked Minneapolis for Super Bowl LII in 2018 over New Orleans.  The Vikings and the city are building a new stadium.

Does New Orleans need a new stadium to get future Super Bowls?  Foreman doesn't think so.

"The owners know we are the very best city to host a Super Bowl, the competition comes when a fellow owner builds a billion dollar stadium. There seems to be a commitment that says that if you build a new stadium, we give you a Super Bowl."

He says New Orleans will host more Super Bowls, it may just have to be in years that the competition does not include an NFL owner and city that just invested a billion dollars or more on a new venue and is looking to get a big return on that investment.
