New Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame opening, Shaq inducted

The long-awaited, new Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in historic Natchitoches finally opens its doors to the public Friday night.

Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Chairman Doug Ireland says there's a public reception tonight for $23 million museum that's the new home for the 300 athletes and coaches enshrined in the hall.

There's also all kinds of artifacts and memorabilia that highlight Louisiana's sports history. Ireland says the building also looks stunning from the outside.

"It is just sensational in look, feel and experience," Ireland touted.

On Saturday, the 2013 class will be inducted, which is highlighted by former LSU great Shaquille O' Neal.

"He's had a decent basketball career I would say, and he's done some great things away from sports," Ireland said.

Former LSU football players Tommy Hodson and Kevin Mawae are also part of the class, as is tennis champion Chanda Rubin.

Other's inducted in years past included Bobby Hebert, Danny Abramowicz, Morten Andersen, Skip Bertman, Terry Bradshaw, Lou Brock, Billy Cannon, Will Clark, Joe Dumars, Marshall Faulk, Rickey Jackson, Karl Malone, Archie Manning, Pete Maravich, Deuce McAllister, Willie Roaf, and many more.
