Neighbors: Man shot after confronting criminal

Cops are investigating a shooting that witnesses say left a concerned citizen wounded after confronting a criminal.

It happened after six o' clock this morning near the corner of South Liberty and Soniat Street in Uptown New Orleans.

The man was walking his dog near Evans Playground when he sustained a bullet wound and was rushed to the hospital.

Neighbors tell WWL TV that the victim saw a suspect trying to break into cars and told him to stop.  They say that's when the suspect shot the man.

Police have not confirmed this account of what happened.  They are investigating.

No update was available on the condition of the man shot, but NOPD said the man was shot in the leg.
