New Orleans Police Department's Fatality Section is investigating a wreck that left a 22-year-old man dead.   

The crash with the motorcycle and a large truck happened around 2:30 this afternoon on I-10 eastbound at the upslope of the Highrise police say.

According to witnesses "The cyclist was travelling at a high rate of speed in the far left lane on the highrise, and for unknown reasons he lost control of the bike and collided with an oncoming tractor trailer, who was traveling in the middle lane," a news release from the NOPD says.  "The tractor trailer struck the cyclist and never stopped. The victim was ejected and thrown onto the roadway and pronounced dead on the scene."

The wreck kept traffic tied up for hours this afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing and a toxicology test will be performed.
