"It's in the Chase Bank parking lot on Claiborne and Carrollton," one eyewitness described. "The armored car is parked right outside of the bank with the door open and they have it blocked off around the armored car."
It happened just before 11:00am today.
"They have the whole area yellow taped off," the witness described.
Police say it was a robbery that lead to the murder.
"A... guard was unloading money from the... vehicle when he was approached by three males that shot and killed him," NOPD Officer Garry Flot said in an email. "The 3 suspects took money and fled in a vehicle. We have located the vehicle that they fled in."
He describes the victim as a 45-year-old man.
Flot later released the following description of the suspects and additional information, "The suspects abandon the first vehicle they were in at Adam and Green Streets and fled in a gray Hyundai partial plate 141654. The three suspects were described as 3 blk males 5"7 to 5"9 wearing dark jackets and hoodies. One of the suspects had a possible dread lock hair style."
The NOPD released the following this afternoon:
An armored car guard, a 45-year-old man was shot to death during a robbery in the Carrollton Neighborhood. The name of the man has not been released pending notification of family members. The incident took place at approximately 10:45 A.M., in the parking area of a business in the 2300 block of South Carrollton Avenue.
Police arrived at the location and learned, as the guard was unloading money from the armored car, three suspects approached and began firing, killing the guard. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene in a Tahoe. A short while later, police found the Tahoe at the intersection of Adam and Green Streets. Officers learned the suspects exited the Tahoe and fled in a gray Hyundai with a partial temporary plate 141654. The suspects were described as three Black males, 5’7” to 5’9” tall wearing dark jackets with hoods. One suspect had a possible dread lock hair style.
No one else was injured in the incident. Detectives are investigating the origin of the Tahoe.
The Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct its autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
