Steeped in controversy after he was caught on video kissing a woman who is not his wife, Congressman Vance McAllister has reportedly decided that he will not seek another term in office.
McAllister chief of staff Adam Terry told The Associated Pressthat McAllister intends to complete his term. The congressman from Schwarz, Louisiana, previously had said he would not resign. The general election is in December.
The News-Star in Monroe, Louisiana reports that McAllister said today, "I am committed to serving the 5th District to the best of my ability through this term, but I also have to take care of my family as we work together to repair and strengthen the relationship I damaged."
His wife, Kelly McAllister, said that she and her husband are staying together.
"I'm behind him 100 percent," she told the News-Star.
She traveled with him to Washington.
McAllister issued a statement after the news broke earlier this month.
"There's no doubt I've fallen short and I'm asking for forgiveness." McAllister said. "I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I've disappointed."
