McAllister expected back in DC this week

Congress returns from its two-week holiday recess today and its expected 5th district US Representative Vance McAllister will be in DC for the first time since video surfaced showing him kissing a married staffer.

University of Louisiana Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says McAllister getting back to work is a sign he's been able to survive the scandal for now.

"Representative McAllister adopted Senator David Vitter's example on how to beat an indiscretion," Stockley explained.

McAllister has not made any public appearances since the scandal broke. But he issued an apology and the last written statement from his office said he plans to return to DC following the holiday recess. Stockley says admitting to the affair helped McAllister remain in office.

The professor added, "He's also benefited that there's been no additional allegations or any additional images."

But Stockley says once McAllister gets back to his duties as a Congressman, he will be asked about his act of infidelity.

"He will have to confront other individuals, the media and his own constituents and he can't expect they will not ask questions."
