Man shot and killed by New Orleans cop
New Orleans Police Chief Ronal Serpas says a man was shot and killed by one of his officers responding to a shoplifting call Sunday morning.
The incident took place in the Hollygrove neighborhood, near Leonidas Street, between Earhart Boulevard and Clairborne Avenue.
The 31-tear-old victim was reported dead at the scene in the 8600 block of Belfast Street about 10 a.m.
Police say the officer at the scene initially called requesting assistance.
NOPD Chief Serpas gave few details about the shooting at a Sunday afternoon press conference, other than to say the victim was armed.
The officer involved will be reassigned during an investigation.
Police are also investigating the shooting death pf a 32-year-old man Saturday night in the Gert Town neighborhood.
The NOPD says it happened about 9:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of Lowerline Street.
Police, responding to a call of shots fired, found the unidentified man shot multiple times to the head, lying on the front lawn of a house.
He died on the scene.
