LSU senior right-hander Louis Coleman has signed a contract with the Kansas City Royals and has been assigned to the Burlington (Iowa) Bees, the club's Class A affiliate in the Midwest League.
Coleman, a 2009 first-team all-American and the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year, helped lead the Tigers to the College World Series title by posting a 14-2 mark and a 2.93 ERA in 129 innings. He recorded 142 strikeouts and just 23 walks while limiting opponents to a .224 batting average.
Coleman was 4-0 with 2.79 ERA seven postseason appearances. He struck out the side in the ninth inning to seal an 11-4 win over Texas in Game 3 of the CWS Championship Finals, clinching LSU's sixth national championship since 1991.
Coleman was the Royals' fifth-round draft selection last month.
