How it happened: LSU led by 22 points late in the 1st half, but Arkansas spent the 2nd half chipping away at the Tigers lead. The Razorbacks were within two points with just over a minute left, but the Bayou Bengals must enough free throws to win 65-60.
Most Valuable Tiger: Senior Charles Carmouche (above) continued his hot play in the PMAC as he scored a career-high 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three-point territory. Carmouche has scored 20 or more points in his last three games at the Maravich Center. LSU needed all of Carmouche’s points as Anthony Hickey had a quiet ten points and leading scorer Johnny O’ Bryant only had five points, as he sat most of the 2nd half, because of foul trouble.
Stat of the game: LSU scored 45 points in the 1st half and hit seven 3-pointers, but they were held to 20 points in the 2nd half. There were two factors, Arkansas’ pressure defense stymied LSU and having O’Bryant on the bench took away the Tigers’ inside-outside game.
What it means: After starting conference play with a 0-and-4 record, the Tigers are 8-and-7 after going six-and-two in the month of February. LSU was one-game over .500 last season going into the final three conference games, but the Tigers lost all of those games to finish with a league record of 7-and-9. Coach Johnny Jones is hoping for a stronger finish this year.
Up next: LSU travels to the Show Me State to play Missouri on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers beat Missouri (19-8 8-6) earlier this season in Baton Rouge, but Missouri is undefeated at home this season. Tip-off is at 3 PM.
