LSU’s defense looks to turn up the pressure against Washington

LSU's defense didn't allow a first down until the 2nd quarter against North Texas and ended up only allowing 219 total yards. But the Tigers defensive line is a proud group, and they are not happy about the lack of sacks against the Mean Green.

LSU's defensive line is considered one of the best in the country, but they didn't put much pressure on UNT Quarterback Derek Thompson. Part of the problem was the Mean Green threw a lot of short passes, but members of the Tigers D-line are not making any excuses.

Defensive tackle Anthony Johnson (above) was not happy with the lack of sacks and the focus this week is to put pressure on Washington quarterback Keith Price, who was sacked three times in last Saturday's win over San Diego State.

According to an article in the Seattle Times, the offensive line struggled to protect Price and the quarterback, who threw a school record 33 touchdown passes last season, held onto the ball too long. So it would seem that LSU could get a couple of sacks this Saturday.

But maybe there is something wrong with LSU's d-line. Potential first round pick Sam Montgomery did not start against North Texas and he didn't get into the game until the Mean Green's third offensive series. During Tuesday's media luncheon, Coach Les Miles downplayed the fact senior Lavar Edwards started over Montgomery. But it's still weird  Montgomery didn't start.

But Washington has its own issues as well. Starting right tackle Ben Riva will miss the LSU game, because of a fractured forearm. That means the Huskies could start three sophomores on its o-line.

The Huskies top running back will also miss the LSU game and the rest of the season. Jessie Callier tore his A-C-L, which leaves Washington's backfield without an experienced running back.

LSU will try to take advantage of these injuries and inexperience to make sure the Price isn't upright on Saturday night.
