Strief back in Black and Gold
The Saints have agreed to terms on a 5 year deal with free agent offensive tackle Zach Strief.
Strief tested the free agency market and received some slight interest from other teams, but ultimately decided on a return to New Orleans.
The deal pays Strief $8.4 million of guaranteed cash, and $20.5 million over the life of the contract.
Strief has been with the Saints since 2006 as a 7th round draft pick in Sean Payton's first draft as the Saints head coach.
Strief is widely respected in the locker room and voted team captain the past two seasons by his teammates.
The move solidifies a position of need for the Black and Gold.
He's not a dominant tackle, but probably the most consistent offensive lineman on the team in 2013.
The familiarity with team and city, and the skill made this yet another wise move for Mickey Loomis and the Saints front office.
