Kristian: Saints release OT Smith, continue work for Houston

Cut: I'm not surprised OT Jason Smith was cut.  He started at with the #2's and  struggled there, then moved to RT with #3's, and even had trouble there.  So, it was just a matter of time before he was trimmed from the roster.  So, the LT starting spot now belongs soley to Charles Brown with Rookie Terron Armstead as the backup.
Rested:  The Saints are continuing to play the cautious approach getting wide receiver Marques Colston ready for week 1.  He sat out of practice on Wednesday.  Fullback Jed Collins also missed practice (undisclosed) along with linbebackers Will Herring (undisclosed), Chris Chamberlain (undisclosed), offensive guard Jahri Evans (undisclosed.)   OLB Junior Gallete is still out with a leg injury.
Looking ahead to Houston:  Sunday when the Saints battle the Texans it should be a great measuring stick for the Black and Gold.  The Texans present a number of challenges for Rob Ryan’s defense and likewise for Houston’s defense against the Saints offense.  How do they handle pass rusher J.J Watt for the Texans?  Can the pass rush generate the dominate performance against a much better offensive line for Houston?  The Texans and Saints are expected to play their starters into half time and maybe one series out of the locker room.
