Kristian: Banged up Saints squad gears up for Chargers

Bumps and Bruises:

Saints Interim Head Coach Aaron Kromer said it best, "There are so many guys on the injury report, I can't name them all."

Defensive end Turk McBride (ankle), linebacker David Hawthorne (hamstring), WR Lance Moore (hamstring), RB Trevaris Cadet (shoulder), and safety Roman Harper (Hip) all missed practice on Wednesday.  The Saints signed WR Greg Camarillo and terminated the contract of DB Elbert Mack.  Lance Moore missing practice this week concerns me a bit, simply because it could potentially throw off the timing in the receiving corps.

Brees vs Unitas:

It's been well documented that Drew Brees is hot on the heels of Johnny Unitas' record for consecutive games.  The Saints QB could break the record Sunday night with a TD pass in 48 straight games.

Brees says he is more interested in logging the Saints first win of the season, rather than carving his name in the record books. "I hope that we accomplish it, it's tremendous.  At the Same time I need to focus on doing my job, and whatever it takes to help us win... if we break the record in the process than that's great," Brees said.

It's not a mistake that it could happen against his former team.  Brees started his career in San Diego, and it wasn't just happenstance the record setting performance could potentially come against his original team. "That's not a coincidence, the NFL is no dummies they know what they're doing," said Brees.

0 and 4:

A sign of a successful team is when nothing changes in terms of the approach on a four game winning streak or a 4 game losing streak.  The Saints haven't panicked, they haven't deviated from the belief in their team or organization.  "They're down but not out, they are disappointed but not discouraged," Kromer said.

Inside the building, the Saints truly believe they can get this 0 and 4 start rectified.  I think they'll battle the rest of the way, but it's going to be really hard to accomplish their goal of a Super Bowl with the start that they've had.

They could not have put a bigger smile on Goodell's face by have a 0-4 start. His punishments have hurt more than any Saints fans, coaches, players, GM would have thought before the season started. I hope he sees that and hopefully by allowing the punished to attend the game if they choose to do so, is a first sign of mercy for Saints fans everywhere.
