Kenner woman charged as heroin killer

The rash of heroin overdose deaths continue in Jefferson Parish and now one overdose has turned into a murder case.  Kenner Police today announced the arrest today of 20-year-old Lana Marie Cristina (above) for second degree murder.

Sgt. Brian McGregor says the death of 23-year-old Amber Hollis occurred in October in a home on Kansas Ave., after several months the test results came back showing it was a heroin overdose.  After initial denials, police say the woman with her at the time Lana Marie Cristina admitted to supplying the drug to Hollis.  McGregor says there maybe more murder cases coming from these drug deaths

''We want to take it one step further and get those individuals that are out dealing illegal drugs that people are killing themselves with,'' said McGregor.

Listen to an interview with Sgt. Brian McGregor:

Police are hoping that some of the dealers might think twice before peddling the drug.

''You certainly here it everyday from the public that we need hold those individuals accountable that are out there distributing the drug," McGregor said.
