Judge throws out CCC election, no tolls on bridge

A state judge has nullified the results of the vote to keep tolls on the Crescent City Connection and right now the DOTD is not collecting tolls on the bridge.

Officials say the tolls are suspended until further notice.

A group fighting the 20-year renewal of the tolls says hundreds of voters were denied their right to vote.

The Jefferson Parish Registrar of Voters office testified yesterday that some voters were given ballots that did not include the issue.

Officials with the Department of Transportation and Development have suspended collection of tolls until further notice.

Plaintiffs' attorneys had argued that the election that passed by 36 votes, after a recount, should be nullified.

After a partial recount, the final margin of victory for those wanting to keep the tolls was a razor-thin 36 votes.

A new vote is now scheduled for May 4th.
