Jindal signs library restriction for sex offenders

Gov. Bobby Jindal has signed into law a measure that will limit public library access for sex offenders whose victims were under 13 years old.

The bill by Livingston Sen. Dale Erdey will prohibit those sex offenders from being on public library property in Louisiana during certain times and on specified days under guidelines that will have to be devised by library boards by Jan. 1.

A library could adopt total ban on access for those sex offenders, if the library's governing board wants.

Lawmakers passed the bill in the legislative session that ended this week.
