Should Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal take any sort of action against his top aid for allegedly driving drunk? Reporters asked the governor about the weekend incident.
"Bottom line is, it was a serious mistake. It shouldn't have happened in the first place," Jindal said about Chief of Administration Paul Rainwater (above) charged with allegedly having more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system and driving the wrong way down the road.
He continued, "Paul has said publicly he's admitted it was a very serious mistake, he has apologized and said it won't happen again."
Jindal went on to endorse Rainwater.
"I continue to have confidence in Paul's ability to do his job as commissioner. It is time to move forward," the governor insisted. "It certainly won't happen again."
Jindal has led the fight to toughen DWI laws and backed a number of bills to crack down on drunk drivers.
We asked listeners to text us with their thoughts on Jindal's reaction to Rainwater's DWI, and here is a sampling of what they said:
You have to practice what you preach . So let him go.
B S! Hope he doesn't do it again. Pays he fines and all that goes with that game winning ticket. I hardly think an apology would be enough to a family who he might injure or kill the next time. Let's hope BJ is right.
Bobby Jindal should at least suspend that guy for a whole month with no salary.
Dave i am a state emploee i would havf already been fired!
I got a dwi and it destroyed my life i lost about 3 different jobs w the jailtime and all the work i had 2 miss .it is very hard 2 get a job these days .
i thought we were moving on from the good old boy system
Should not lose job but should go through same as every one else
He got 2nd term Does he care?
Since when do you loose your job because of a DWI. It's not like He needs a license to do His job.
Have him attend a M.A.D.D meeting
DWI is a personal matter foe Rainwater, move on, change the subject, his DWI has nothing to do w/his job!
So much for ethics. I guess the Louisiana good old boy network is back in action....
So if I get a DWI today, I should be able to just apologize and suffer no consequences since Im really a good person! Dont think that will work for me???
Dave, zero means Z-E-R-O!! Nothing, nada, zip! A severe administration fine/penalty/suspension is what is called for or Jindal is a double standard liar!
He should suffer the same penalty as anyone else. Ticket & arrested. The onlt people who lose thier jobs usually involve some sort of driving for a profession.
