The Louisiana Republican Party chairman, the Republican governor, and other Republicans have called on Congressman Vance McAllister to resign in the wake of infidelity allegations. State Democrats have been quick to point out that neither party bosses nor Jindal were calling on Senator David Vitter to resign when his personal scandal broke in 2007.
"I know there are folks, there are Democrats and others trying to link the two issues," Jindal said this afternoon. "I'm not going to go down that path. I think the issue before us is the congressman's actions."
Jindal said if McAllister wants to repair the damage he did to his marriage and family, stepping away from Congress would be the right thing to do.
"I personally think it would be in the best interest not only for the congressman himself but for our state and the United States House of Representatives for him to step down," said the governor.
