Jindal and White deadlocked on Common Core dispute

Governor Bobby Jindal and Education Superintendent John White didn't appear to break through an impasse over standardized testing in their disagreement over the Common Core education standards.

The two men had their first-sit down Thursday since the governor stalled White's testing contracts as a way to undermine Louisiana's use of Common Core. After it was over, the Republican governor issued a brief statement that suggested nothing had changed.

White and a majority of state education board members support Common Core.

Jindal suspended the testing contracts to derail education department plans to purchase Common Core-aligned testing material.

White says the Republican governor overreached his authority. Jindal says the education department didn't follow contracting law.

Jindal said he "made it clear to Superintendent White'' that it's important to follow state procurement law.
