Jefferson Parish voters to choose state representative Saturday

Voters in parts of Metairie and north Kenner will to elect a new state representative Saturday, to replace Tony Ligi in House District 79.

Ligi resigned from the District 79 seat to take a position with the Jefferson Business Council.

Four candidates are running in the special election. All are Republicans.

The four are: Allison Bent Bowler, chief financial officer for Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans; business owner Jack Rizzuto; certified public accountant Julie Stokes; and lawyer Paul Villalobos.

This is the first election in the state in which polling hours change from the traditional 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. to the new hours of 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Based on early voting numbers, the Secretary of State's office predicts as low as 15% turnout for the election.
