Jeff: The good - bad and the ugly from LSU's lackluster win over Louisiana Tech

THE GOOD

It was nice to see Keiland Williams have a good day running the football. The senior from Lafayette had 116 yards on two touchdowns. You knew he was going to have a good game, when his first carry was 18 yards long. It's a shame he only had 15 rushing attempts, because Tech couldn't stop him.

LSU's defense came to play in the 2nd half. The Tigers came out flat for the first half, after last week's heart breaking loss to Alabama. Tech took advantage by putting up 229 yards of total offense. But the Bulldogs only had 93 yards of offense in the second half. LSU also had a season high five sacks. Linebacker Perry Riley had an outstanding game with 14 tackles.

Louisiana Tech's touchdown pass right before halftime was a very creative play. First of all, I love the decision to go for it on 4th and goal from the 1-yard line. Then to come up with a trick play to score the go-ahead touchdown was brilliant. If you didn't see it, quarterback Ross Jenkins acts like he's calling an audible, and begins walking towards the left tackle. That's when the center snapped the ball to running back Daniel Porter, who threw a jump pass for a touchdown. LSU didn't know how to react.

Terrance Toliver was able to return after a violent hit early in the 3rd quarter. Four starters were missing for Saturday's game, and the Tigers can't afford any more big injuries on offense.

THE BAD

LSU's passing attack was anemic to say the least. Quarterback Jarrett Lee was rusty and his timing with his receivers was no where to be found. Lee finished the game completing only 7 of 22 pass attempts for 105 yards and a touchdown.

LSU fans spent a lot of the second half booing Lee. The 20-year-old is trying his best out and the boos are not helping. If you want to scream at the coaching staff that's fine, but don't boo a college student when he runs onto the field.

Russell Shepard only got four carries on Saturday night. It's nearly a wasted year for the talented freshman. In a game where the passing game isn't working, Shepard should have been on the field a little more to provide his team with a jolt of energy. Williams and Shepard were underutilized the entire game.

THE UGLY

I'm not a coach, and I don't pretend to be one. But a 4th grader could have told you on Saturday that LSU was passing the football way too much, and not running the ball enough. Williams averaged nearly 8 yards a carry, but only had 10 rushing attempts going into the 4th quarter. The Tigers could have made this game a lot easier on themselves, if they ran the ball right at Tech. Why the finesse game, when you should be able to push around a Louisiana Tech team who had several back-ups playing because of injuries.

Another dropped snap on a field goal attempt. If you go back to this column after the Mississippi State game, I said holder Derek Helton would drop a snap again this season, after he had those issues in Starkville. Well it happened again on Saturday, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see it again this season.

Nine more penalties for LSU on Saturday night, my favorite one was a delay of game penalty in the 1st quarter to start Tigers second drive. How do you have a delay of game penalty after another team punts the football? Shouldn't you know what play to call, before you start your next drive.
