JPSO: Child hit by gunfire

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office reports a child on the Westbank was hit by gunfire this afternoon, but suffered "non-life threatening injuries."

The two year old is being treated at the hospital  with a superficial wound to the face.

The father tells police he was getting into the car with his toddler when a man fired a gun, with the bullet first hitting the car door and then hitting the child.

The gunman, who was driving a black Nissan Sentra, remains at large.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 504-822-1111.
