Houma resident allegedly kills man for waking him up

Houma Police say a local resident gunned down another man early Sunday, because the victim banged on a neighbor's door and woke him up.

Police Chief Todd Duplantis says it happened in the 8000 block of Big Cypress Street.

According to police, 58-year-old Ray Carlos yelled at the man who awoke him by banging on a neighbor's door across the street at 3 a.m. Carlos allegedly confronted the man and fired a single shot that hit the victim in the head, killing him instantly.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of family. Police say the door he was banging on was that of his ex-girlfriend's house.

Carlos called 911, told authorities what happened and waited for them to arrive, Duplantis said. Arriving officers found the victim dead on the sidewalk.

Carlos is charged with second-degree murder and is in the Terrebonne Parish jail awaiting a bond hearing. If convicted, he faces an automatic life sentence.
