Officers with the Houma Police Department says a local man faces charges of driving while intoxicated after being caught motoring down a city street on a riding lawnmower in the middle of the night.
A department spokesman says it happened just after midnight this morning when an officer was patrolling Barrow street. The officer says the lawnmower driver nearly crashed into the police cruiser.
In addition to driving on the highway on the lawnmower, police say 60-year-old Edward Duke (above) was driving without lights.
After pulling Duke over, police say he failed a field sobriety test and was arrested.
Additionally, cops say Duke has an outstanding warrant for another DWI in New Mexico from 2007.
After being charged with 2nd-offense DWI and operating an unsafe vehicle, Duke was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Jail.
The Houma Police Department indicated that Duke was operating the lawmower with a prosthetic leg, though it is unclear if that had anything to do with the allegedly manner in which it was being driven on the city street.
