Holy Cross shootings involved 'drugs and guns' says chief

New Orleans Police today gave the public more details about a drive-by shooting that killed two people in the Holy Cross neighborhood last night, including a 16-year-old girl. Another teenage girl and two small children, ages 2 and 4, along with a 37-year-old woman, were also wounded in the gunfire.

Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said they've already been able to discern two facts about this double-homicide: "This case involves drugs and guns."

Listen to the NOPD news conference:

The chief said detectives believe the young man who was killed in the shooting was the intended target.

"We believe that someone targeted the young man who expired on the scene," the chief said. "We know that he had a gun."

Serpas, New Orleans councilman James Grey, and Crimestoppers director Darlene Cusanza all said someone knows who did this crime, and implored them to call police, or Crimestoppers at 822-1111, where they can leave tips and remain anonymous. Crimestoppers is offering a reward up to $5,000 for good information.
