Hollywood honors it best this Sunday at the Academy Awards ceremony. Louisiana may be able to take some credit for some of the Oscar gold that gets handed out.
Plenty of movies shoot here in "Hollywood South" now, but this year, one of the nominated films is, as Louisiana Entertainment Executive Director Chris Stelly puts it, an indigenous product: the Oscar-nominated Beasts of the southern wild.
"These are Louisiana-bred, Louisiana-born, Louisianans," said Stelly. "It's totally an indigenous story."
And then there is Quentin Tarantino's homage to spaghetti westerns -- a "spaghetti southern" as Tarantino refers to it -- "Django Unchained," shot in and around New Orleans. It's also up for best picture.
"'Beasts of the Southern Wild' and 'Django Unchained,' you know, it kind of continues our streak with the academy."
Stelly says Hollywood South has plenty to be proud of.
