While the NOPD Public Integrity Bureau is leading the probe into a police shooting in Hollygrove on Sunday, the Independent Police Monitor is heavily involved in a separate investigation. Family members and eye witnesses claim the action was unjustified, Police Monitor Susan Hutson says she wants to know much more. She arrived on the scene within minutes of the shooting and said the atmosphere was ''hot.''
'' There were a lot of people out there, people who were angry, people who wanted answers,'' said Hutson.
Some people on the scene claimed the 31 year old man was running from police after a convenience store shoplifting, when he was shot multiple times by one of the pursuing officer.
Hutson heard shouts from the crowd that they had taken phone camera videos and she says they need those.
''We need to know what happened whichever way it falls, we need to know.''
Hutson says there should also be a police video from the NOPD patrol car. The officer who fired the shots is on administrative duty pending the outcome of multiple investigations. An attorney for the cop says his clients actions will be justified once the investigation are over.
