Hokie: Saints won't miss Sproles with Travaris Cadet on board

The New Orleans Saints wrapped up this week's practice with a two-hour session at the Advocare Facility at the Greenbrier in West Virginia. New Orleans will travel to St. Louis tomorrow to prepare for their first pre-season game.

Saints Color Analyst Hokie Gajan observed practice from the stands again today. "I thought it was a pretty good practice overall," Gajan said. Hokie has been impressed with the progress of Saints RB Travaris Cadet: "He's (Cadet) more than capable of replacing Darren Sproles.  Cadet understands the protections and he knows what to do out there."  Hokie thinks Cadet will have a very good season for the Saints.

Hokie also pointed out that QB's Luke McCown and Ryan Griffin did not have great days. "I thought the QB play was just OK...  but I will say that when the Saints began to work on two-minute offense that both Griffin and McCown got better in that period." Gajan thinks that Luke McCown is clearly the Saints back-up QB right now and that Griffin will be the third string QB.

The Cajun Cannon Bobby Hebert was impressed with the play of DB's Patrick Robinson, Corey White and rookie Stanley Jean-Baptiste.  "P-Rob has had his best camp as a Saints player. Now I want to see if he can continue to play well in the game against the Rams."

Bobby said that Jean-Baptiste is starting to get a better grasp of what the coaches are asking him to do.  "He's had a very good last few practices.  He made a nice play against TE Jimmy Graham yesterday and today he broke up passes on back to back plays.  He's making good strides out there."

Bobby was excited to see RB Khiry Robinson during two-minute drills.  On one drive the speedy RB slipped past the Saints LB's and QB Luke McCown hit him with Robinson turning on the speed for a nice gain.

"Khiry Robinson is a player that needs to get the football.  He can make things happen when he has the ball in his hands."

Bobby also noted Saints DE Junior Gallette's sack during the morning practice, and DL Akiem Hicks did a nice job of bull rushing past OL Marcel Jones in one-on-one drills.

DB Rafael Bush was active at practice this morning.  Bush got physical taking down RB Pierre Thomas on one play.  And then #25 got into a light scuffle with QR Charles Hawkins.

Be sure to catch Cannon's and Hokie's breakdown of practice today on "Sports Talk" at 4pm!
