Reggie Bush sat out of the morning practice at Saints training camp. It is the second time in the first six practices that the running back didn't participate.
"Anytime that you have a guy that's a starter, somebody that you're counting on to make a lot of plays for you and things like that, and they are not getting practice time out there on the field - it does become a little be of a concern," WWL's Hokie Gajan said after practice. "If they are just holding him out to try and keep him as fresh as they can, then I think that's a smart thing to do."
Coach Sean Payton did say before camp that Bush would not be taking part in all the workouts. He had knee surgery after an injury last year.
Hokie has been concerned that we would start seeing players fatigued about now, but says that isn't the case so far.
"They looked just as energetic and moving around just as well this morning as they have in the past, which I think is a good sign because usually after that 3rd or 4th day of practice, you know that's when all those bruises and bumps start settling in," He said. "After having a rough practice yesterday afternoon, they turned around and had another one this morning, and they really went out there an gave the fans something to look at."
Listen to Hokie:
The Saints appear to be trying hard not to overwork the team. Hokie says it's working.
"Most guys are still flying around... Coach Payton is kinda doing things pretty smart," Hokie noted. "I think he's trying to figure out the right formula, what he can do to keep his players fresh. Up to this point it is certainly working. I know they've only been going at it since Friday, but usually about that three day mark is when lactic acid starts building up in you system and you start getting pretty sore and pretty tired. I just don't see that yet."
