HUD says Jefferson Parish misspent funds

Federal investigators say the Jefferson Parish Housing Authority improperly spent more than $650,000.

"The Authority did not always comply with the Federal procurement regulations or ensure that its expenditures were eligible and supported," according to a report from the U.S. Department of Housing Urban Development Office of Inspector General.

The report says Jefferson Parish "incurred $202,114 in ineligible and $453,793 in unsupported costs."

The Inspector General suggests that HUD require the money be paid back.

"We recommend that the HUD's Director of Public Housing require the Authority to... repay $202,114 in ineligible costs... support or repay $453,793," the report reads.
