St. Bernard Parish President Craig Taffaro is hosting three ground breakings this week, and another five next week.
Work will start today on the Los Islenos Complex on Bayou Road. "That way, we'll actually be able to host our Islenos Fiesta on the grounds with new buildings in 2010," says Taffaro.
Work also begins today on E. St. Bernard Hwy. in Violet, where Violet Park #2 will be getting a new concession stand, bleachers, scoreboard and lights.
Listen to Don Ames' interview with Taffaro:
Wednesday, shovels hit the dirt at 8245 West Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette. "That'll mark our official start to the St. Bernard Parish Auditorium, or the Fred Sigur Civic Center," Taffaro says. The parish hopes to hold next year's high school graduations there.
Next week, work starts on Fire Station #6 in Meraux and Fire Station #8 in Poydras. Ground breakings are also scheduled for the Animal Control Shelter in Violet, the Kenilworth Playground on Bobolink Drive and the Aycock Barn in Arabi.
"Each step brings us closer and closer to normalcy and a community that is really on the cusp of proving to be one of the best places in the metropolitan area to live," says Taffaro
