After a long stressful day at work, how do we get rid of the stress?
According to some experts there are four simple ways to relieve stress:
1. Get moving by exercise or any indoor or outdoor activity.
2. Eat certain foods like dark chocolate, foods with Omega-3 fatty acids and citrus fruits.
3. Unplug, shut down and log off all smartphones, video games and TV's.
4. Get plenty of rest and the right amount of sleep.
Dr. Michelle Moore is a clinical psychologist with the LSU Health Sciences Center. She says sleep is so important.
"You really have to cut off the phone, cut off the TV at least an hour before bed. That helps to get your mind into a restful place," Dr. Moore said. "And your room should be nice and cool, dark, and very quiet."
When it comes to relieving stress by exercising or moving about, Dr. Moore says it doesn't always have to be a scheduled exercise routine.
"There are simple ways that you can be exercising and moving your body, when you clean your house, when you vacuum, that's exercise and that relieves your stress," Dr. Moore said. "Gardening outside, I think engaging in any outdoor activity, cutting the grass, that can relieve your stress because that's getting your body moving."
And eating dark chocolate. That can't be a bad thing, right?
Dr. Moore believes most of us have some sort of stress in our lives, and it's important to get rid of it the best way we can.
