We've been waiting for this to happen -- gasoline has hit an average cost of less than three dollars per gallon.
Drivers have probably already seen it at a few gas stations around metro New Orleans, but now the average cost for a gallon of regular, according to the American Automobile Association's daily survey, is $2.98 per gallon.
AAA's Mike Redman says as we approach holiday travel time, it could even go lower.
"By the end of November, perhaps into December, we could see prices actually even below $2.90 a gallon," said Redman. "On a weekly average, families (are) saving anywhere between $15 to $30 a week just on fuel prices, and...that can quickly add up to almost $100 a month."
Redman says the problems of the Middle East and northern Africa haven't gone away, but there doesn't seem to be as much "saber rattling" going on. He says that has stabilized crude oil prices.
