Freeze and wind advisories for both sides of the lake

Looks like some rough weather for the metro New Orleans area as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches.

There is a wind advisory for most areas south of lake from 9p.m. this evening to 6a.m. tomorrow morning for winds up to 30 mph with higher gusts.

The National Weather Service has also issued a coastal flood warning for Orleans parish for strong north winds that will cause flooding on southshore of lake outside protected levee areas.

Channel 4 chief meteorologist Carl Arredondo says there is a hard freeze warning for the Northshore Thursday (Thanksgiving) morning with lows in mid 20s, which he says means we should protect pipes for the first time this season, along with plants, pets, and people.

He also says there is a light freeze warning all areas south of lake including New Orleans, which means you need to protect plants, pets and people.

The National Weather Service says subfreezing temperatures Wednesday night and Thanksgiving morning are expected to last from 1 to 3 hours across the East Bank of metro New Orleans and lower sections of the coastal parishes and away from the immediate coastline and lakefront to as long as 6 to 8 hours across sections of the West Bank to the river parishes...Houma and Thibodaux.
