Final suspect in officer's hit-and-run death surrenders

A man who was on the run in connection with the death of New Orleans Police Officer Rodney Thomas has surrendered to police.

According to NOPD, John Chambers turned himself into the Central Lock-Up Friday. Chambers was one of the six indicted in connection with Thomas' death.

Officer Thomas was killed in a hit-and-run accident in July on the I-10 High-rise.

Police quickly tracked down the car that hit the officer at a body shop not far from Police Headquarters.

Three people were arrested at the time, and six people have now been formally indicted in the case.

Kenneth Halley faces indicted on manslaughter, obstruction of justice, and two counts of conspiracy. He's being held on a $1.6 million bond.

Bond was set at $1 million for Justin McKey, who faces a manslaughter charge. Police say he was the man driving the car that hit Officer Thomas.

Bill Cager, Nephateria Jones, and James Ratliff all face multiple charges including obstruction of justice, and accessory after the fact to manslaughter.

Chambers faces accessory and obstruction of justice charges.
