Father found not guilty by reason of insanity after decapitating son
The man from Thibodaux who was charged with the murder and decapitation of his 7-year-old son in 2011 has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Today a judge in LaFourche Parish said Jeremiah Write will be committed to the East Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, Louisiana.
Defense Attorney Kerry Cuccia says prosecutors agreed to the ruling.
District Attorney Cam Morvant said, "It's just overwhelming medical testimony that the defendant, Mr. Wright, was mentally ill at the time he committed the crime."
Wright has been in custody since August 2011. That's when Jori Lirette was killed and his head left in the yard of the home Wright was sharing with Lirette's mother, Jesslyn Lirette. The boy required around-the-clock care and was fed through a tube.
Police say Wright cut off the little boy's head in a sink and then placed the head in the driveway for the mother to see when she came home.
