Father charged with killing baby that wouldn't stop crying

Northshore cops have charged a dad from Livingston Parish with the killing of his infant daughter.  It happened in the town of Walker.

The newborn was taken off life support this week after initially being hospitalized April 19th.

"The child apparently was crying, and he became frustrated," Captain John Sharp says.  "He couldn't get the child to stop crying, and he put his hand over the baby's mouth."

The 23-year-old father is under arrest for allegedly suffocating his four week old daughter.   He is charged with manslaughter.

Sharp says Franklin Finney confessed.

It was the 4-week-old girl's mother who found the infant was not breathing.

Sharp says Kayla Depoy arrived home and noticed something was wrong.

"She walked over to the crib and noticed that the child was unresponsive... she called 911," Sharp explained.

The infant was on life support for three weeks.  Her condition continued to deteriorate.

Finney was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center, and bond was set at $75,000.
