Fantasy Football Week 9: Sit 'Em, Start 'Em

I got "Gronked" this past week by co-worker Mark Menard and my stellar squad didn't help by putting up their worst performance of the year, so I am now 4-4 on the year.  My opponent this week is B97 DJ Lil Tony and his 3-5 "Mr. McGibblets" team.  I gotta rebound with a "W" so I don't end up below .500.  Here is my advice for week 9...

SIT EM

Christian Ponder: Quarterback, Minnesota Vikings

Ponder has been a turnover machine lately. He has lost the ball eight times in four games. This week's match-up is less than favorable, going up against the Seahawks #3 rated defense vs. QB's. I like Ponder and his weapons, but it has been a difficult decision to start or sit many of these guys lately. Kyle Rudolph has been particularly hard hit by Ponder's lackluster performance and would make my sit list as well.

Malcolm Floyd: Wide Receiver, San Diego Chargers

Floyd has not scored a TD in six weeks! This has been a huge issue for fantasy owners. His best performance was in week 5, when he grabbed 5 passes for 108 yards. However, his average of about 65 yards per game is not cutting it fantasy-wise. This week he faces Kansas City in a big divisional match-up. IF Chargers QB Philip Rivers can produce (which has been an issue lately), he'll spread the ball around.  That would mean Floyd will likely only get 3 receptions for 40-50 yards.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis: Running Back, Cincinnati Bengals

Green-Ellis has not scored a TD in four weeks and has also not rushed for more than 80 yards since week 4.  Now he returns from a bye, but faces a solid Denver defense. The Broncos have given up the fifteenth most fantasy points to running backs to date this season, although they've looked better lately (just ask the Saints).

START EM

Alex Green: Running Back, Green Bay Packers

Despite showing next to nothing over his last few games, the Packers are sticking with Alex Green this week and expect more production from him starting vs. Arizona. The Cards have struggled since starting the season 4-0, and that shouldn't change this week. Look for Aaron Rodgers and the "Pack Attack" to get out to an early lead and then pound the ball on the ground with Green the rest of the way.

Cecil Shorts: Wide Receiver, Jacksonville Jaguars

After being drafted in the 4th round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Shorts spent most of his rookie season on the bench. This year didn't start off so well, but he has come on strong the last 2 games, catching 12 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown. After seven games this season, Shorts leads the Jags' lowly offense in receptions, yards and receiving TDs. With rookie Justin Blackmon taking longer to get used to the NFL, Shorts has become the go to guy and playmaker for a Jags team sorely looking for one. If you need help at WR3 or Flex, give him a look.

Brandon Myers: Tight End, Oakland Raiders

While he isn't one of the more recognizable tight ends in the NFL, he has been one of the more consistent so far this season. Going into week nine, Myers is 7th in the league in receptions - with 31 - and 6th in the league in receiving yards - with 383 yards.  He is ahead of many bigger names like Antonio Gates & Vernon Davis. This week Myers and the Raiders get a treat as they face the Tampa Bay Bucs, who are giving up the 2nd most passing yard per game.

Pick-up of the week

Dallas Clark: Tight End, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Clark has been busy in Tampa Bay's suddenly potent passing attack. The former Colt may be in the twilight of his playing years, but he's still an excellent route runner and tough coverage assignment. The downfield success of Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams is opening space underneath, where Clark now operates. Week 9's bye week has deprived owners of some top tier tight ends, and I feel this former All Pro should be able to exploit a vulnerable Raiders defense on Sunday.
