Expert: Seafood plentiful for Lenten season

Here on Ash Wednesday it's the kick off of the Christian Lenten season, when followers traditionally eat seafood on Fridays.

It looks like seafood will be plentiful for Lent and that should keep prices reasonable.

"We've already seen that there's plenty of crawfish around.  It's going to be a great crawfish season, so be prepared for crawfish because it's going to be a lot better than it was last year the way it's looking," says Harlon Pearce with the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.

"Oysters are in prime shape," Pearce says "Finfish offshore and inshore have been great.  The black drums, the snappers, all those things are really in good shape."

And even though shrimp season is over, he says inventories are good.

Pearce sums it up, "I expect as usual New Orleans is going to have a great Lent with seafood."
