Drew Brees: ''It definitely hurts''

I talked to Drew Brees just after one of the roughest games of his career.  Drew talked of the missed opportunities and mistakes made in the 23-13 loss to Atlanta.
"Unfortunately, the turnovers just overshadow everything, they usually do.  We were so good in so many other situations," Brees said. "Defensively, third down, was awesome. They held the Falcons to 1 of 11, that's championship football.  We had numerous occasions, where we'd drive the ball, then there would be a turnover, a critical mistake that would cost us points. That can't happen in a game like this.  You've got to take advantage of every opportunity you get to win the game and seal the deal."
I also asked him about the clock-management issue at the end of the first half that saw the Saints walk away with no points on the board. Drew said that was on him.
"I thought we had more time.  I was watching the clock, I was trying to be strategic with how we were managing it.  I saw 17 seconds, then next thing you know, the ball is complete, and it's 7 seconds.  I thought we had more time, but obviously in hindsight, that's a ball that needs to be complete in the end zone or thrown out of the end zone, at least give yourself another shot, or another field goal opportunity.
In his initial post-game comments, and speaking with me, #9 shouldered the burden of the blame for the loss.
"A lot of those things fall on me, it's my responsibility, I know that.  My belief in this team and myself and confidence level is unwavering.  You know, it hurts, it definitely hurts.  It's kind of heartbreaking to lose the way we have the last two weeks, especially when you feel like you're in large part responsible.  I've got to get better, and I will.  I'll respond, because that's the only way I know how.

Who Dat? It's the Atlanta Falcons. Drew is finished this year. Pay him all that wasted money to throw seven picks in just two games in crazy. Drew Brees selfish greed will cost the Saints misery in more ways than one. It's not over, the Who Dat pain has just begun.

He's going to get BETTER?? Our season is OVER! TOO LITTLE TOO LATE!

Ms. WhOdaTgIrL
Mr. Atl, call this your "Superbowl" ...your season will end come Playoffs...if you get there.

C'mon Man
Fair or not, big contracts come with even bigger expectations. Bottom line is Drew can't be the reason for a string of Saint losses. I had low expectations of the team without Payton but Drew is way way better than what we saw the last two games. He has got to play better.

Mr Bree's is an example of why performance should be part of a players pay structure. It's a joke to hear them say it's on me, then go cash a big check. He played so much better before the big contract.

Bobby Hebert
the motor mouth who knows it all, said the blame is all Brees fault, said it several times on the after game show, so it must be true!
11/30/2012 12:58PM
For sure
The Saints will end their season, long before the Falcons!
11/30/2012 2:34PM
I believe (Remember that Saints fans?)
I believe the Saints will overcome this and I also believe Drew Brees will as well. Drew Brees deserves every penny of his contract.

Drew looks like
the Drew from San Diego without Coach Payton

To Mr. ATL

11/30/2012 4:43PM
Mr. Atl.
You only hear from you guys when the Saints lose. Never heard from you fair weather fans when the Saints went on their run last year. You guys have no class, can't handle adversity, and will never win a Super Bowl, you just don't deserve it. Where were you last year when you scored 2 points in the play-offs, 2 points, ha, what's the matter, cgyt (cat got your thumbs). Come tell us how great you are this year when San Francisco cleans your clock, if you make it that far..I'll be looking for your post Mr No Class...

From Mister Falcon
Hey turd hole while yall go home, we will be in the playoffs, and how abou dat
11/30/2012 7:51PM
Thank Goddell ATL
Falcons fans you better hope you win the superbowl this year. It took Goddell to dismantle our team to give you a chance. The NFC will be represented by a team that got a gift. Thats sad that thats how yall have to be winners.
11/30/2012 7:57PM
Falcon Fan
We finally beat the Saints, but we'll loose our first playoff game.
12/01/2012 5:06AM
Hang it up. Without a headcoach, Saints have no hope. Thank God for next season...
12/01/2012 8:38PM
Are you all crazy
You are saying Bobby H said it is all Drew's fault. The guy who left New Orleans and went to play for the Birds. The Birds!! Bobby has no room to talk! Bobby could not do what Drew has done. He could not even play with the Birds. YOU ARE GOING TO BLAME THE ONE GUY WHO IS KEEPING THE SAINTS TOGETHER. WE DO NOT HAVE A COACH!!! IT IS NOT DREW'S FAULT IT IS GODDELL'S !!!!!!!!!! PUT THE BLAME WHERE IT BELONGS!! and as far as you Birds go, you try to play without a coach. I agree, you will not make it past the playoffs. Eggs will not stop us next year, not they stopped us this year. Egging is for teenagers. Guess that is your ages. Grow up!!

To Mr. ATL
If I recall Matty Ice threw 3 interceptions before the first 5 min burned off the clock during the Arizona game. Yeah y'all won the game, but it was a tough one for y'all. The fact that we still had a chance to win the game with 5 interceptions says a lot. Drew will always be #1. People need to realize that QBs are not gods, immortal or perfect, they are entitled to their rough weeks. And yes I consider the 49rs and Falcons game to be ONE week. Ive always hated Thursday night games, with the exception of the traditional thnxgiving games.

To Mr. Atlanta
Wow,so confident for a fan whose team has never won a Super Bowl - You definitely WILL NOT be representing the NFC this year in our DOME - Believe DAT!! The only reason we are not representing the NFC South is because that SOB, Goodell ripped our team apart. Obviously, you Dirty Birds have benefited from the "Bounty" nonsense. As a Saints Season Ticket holder, I unfortunately will not be watching my team in the Mercedes Benz Superdome in February 2013. Mr. Atlanta, neither will you!!!!
